Vectorization & Layout for Precision Laser Work

The quality of a laser-cut or engraved product depends entirely on the quality of the digital template. A precision laser beam requires exact mathematical paths, not pixels, to achieve the desired sharpness and level of detail. We bridge the gap between your creative vision and technical execution.

Many clients come to us with sketches, JPG files, or complex logos that are unreadable for the machinery. Our layout service in Graz transforms these drafts into clean vector graphics. We optimize line weights, close open paths, and define exact layers for cutting and engraving, ensuring your project enters production without technical errors.

The File Preparation Process in 4 Steps

01
Source File Analysis: We examine your file for resolution, path integrity, and suitability for the chosen material. During this stage, we clarify which areas are to be cut and which are to be engraved.
02
Manual Vectorization: Instead of using automated converters, we rely on precise manual tracing. This guarantees smooth curves without "jagged" edges and exact angles, which is essential for technical components.
03
Technical Optimization: We remove overlapping lines (double paths) that would otherwise cause the material to burn through and assign the correct colors for the laser controller.
04
Final Approval: You receive a digital draft for review. Only after your confirmation is the file transferred to our CO2 or fiber laser systems for production.

Who is this service designed for?

Our layout service is tailored to three primary groups. First, small businesses and start-ups that require a professional logo for office signs or merchandise but do not possess print-ready vector files. Second, we support architects and designers who plan complex models made of acrylic or plywood and require a technical audit of the cutting paths. Third, we assist private individuals who wish to transform a personal idea or a hand-drawn sketch into a high-quality, personalized gift.

Detailed Collaboration Workflow

Once you send your file via email to [email protected], we evaluate the effort required. For simple logos, a brief correction often suffices; for complex illustrations, a complete redrawing is necessary. We communicate the required time transparently. During processing, we pay close attention to material specifications: a cut in 5mm acrylic requires different tolerances than a fine engraving in leather. After the layout is completed, it is stored in your client record, making it immediately available for future re-orders.

What you should prepare as a client

To accelerate the process, please send us the best possible version of your draft. Ideally, these are files in formats such as .AI, .SVG, .DXF, or .PDF. If you only have a photo or a scan, please ensure high resolution, good lighting without shadows, and high contrast between the motif and the background. The clearer the edges in your image, the faster and more accurately we can perform the vectorization. Please also specify the desired dimensions in millimeters, as scaling after the fact can affect proportions.

The Result: What you receive at the end

Upon completion of the layout phase and full payment, you receive the finalized vector file in a common format (usually .SVG or .PDF). This file is not only optimized for our machines but is a universal digital asset that you can use for other purposes such as printing or web use. Additionally, you receive a confirmation of the technical parameters used for production, as well as a digital preview image of the planned result.

Timeline and Delivery

The actual layout creation typically takes between 1 and 3 business days, depending on complexity. Simple vectorizations can often be completed within a few hours. Please note that the general average delivery time for the finished physical product at our studio is 5-7 days. The layout phase is the first step of this process. For urgent projects, we offer an express option with a 30% surcharge to enable prioritized processing in our design queue.

What is NOT included in the layout service

We are technical experts in laser preparation, not a full-service advertising agency. This means: we perform the vectorization of existing drafts but do not create entirely new brand identities or complex artistic illustrations from scratch. Similarly, the search for matching fonts during reconstruction is limited; we either use the fonts you provide or suggest a legally secure, similar alternative. The creation of 3D models for other manufacturing processes is also not part of this offering.

Pricing and Value Added Tax

Billing is conducted on an hourly basis, and we provide an estimate of the effort before starting. Prices are gross amounts including the statutory VAT of 20%. For our B2B customers, we invoice net amounts, with payment due within 14 days of the invoice date. We set a minimum order value of 30 € to cover the administrative costs of file management and communication.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why isn't a simple JPG photo sufficient?
A JPG consists of pixels (small squares). When enlarged, it becomes blurry. A laser, however, requires an exact path (a mathematical line) to follow. Without vectorization, the laser would either follow the pixel edges in a "staircase" fashion or be unable to open the file at all.
Can you redraw logos that I no longer have as a digital file?
Yes, as long as you can send us a photo of the logo (e.g., from a business card or an old product). We then manually trace the logo in a vector program, ensuring it remains crystal clear at any size.
What happens if my layout is too complex for the laser?
In such cases, we advise you during the layout phase. We suggest simplifications to ensure the material does not burn or become unstable. Our goal is a technically feasible and aesthetically pleasing result.
Do I receive the file even if I decide not to proceed with production with you?
Yes, the layout service is a standalone service. After full payment of the design hours, the vector file belongs to you and can be used for any intended purpose.
